« Friday, March 6, 2009, the women of Papua New Guinea (PNG) invite us to come with them to the Land Of The Unexpected; to come together with the confidence that In Christ There Are Many Members, Yet One Body. The women of PNG ask us to unite as one in Christ as we join with them in celebrating a unity where love is genuine, where good overcomes evil and where we are of one heart and soul. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
Doris Rodier, Madeleine Turcot, Virginia McClusky, FdlS
On Friday the 13 th of March 2009, Madeleine Turcot, Virginia Mc Clusky, and Doris Rodier attended an inter-church prayer meeting which took place at St.James’ the Apostle Anglican church, on St.Catherine's Street West, in Montreal. This year the World Day of Prayer was prepared by a Women Committee of Papua New Guinae. Madeleine, Mary and I, being former missionaries of that area, were invited as special guests to share our experiences concerning our work with the women of Papua New Guinea.
We were welcomed by Kofo Dedeke, Coordinator for World Day of Prayer. The Rev. Canon Linda Borden Taylor, incumbent of St.James church, greeted us and expressed her joy to share with us. She first had a light supper with the members representing several churches of Montreal. The friendship in our group was remarkable and made us feel most welcome!
After an hour of prayer we proceeded to the church hall to view a short video of Papua New Guinea. We then shared, the three sisters, individually, our experiences with some 60 or more women and men who were present. They also enjoyed the display Claudette Danis had prepared for us. The evening ended by sharing a few refreshments together and thanking the organizers for such a prayerful and enjoyable evening.
